====== Using different lenses with Vizy ====== Vizy can work with two types of lenses -- M12 and C/CS-mount. M12 is the same type of lens commonly used with action cameras like GoPro. C/CS-mount is often used in industrial/security applications. Being able to use both types of lenses means Vizy can be used with a wide range of off-the-shelf lenses. **Note:** since Vizy has an actuated IR-cut filter, it's recommended that you use lenses that do not have IR-cut filtering. Fortunately, these lenses are easier to find. ===== Attaching zoom lens or another C/CS-mount lens ===== Vizy's 8-50mm zoom lens is a C/CS mount lens. - Remove the existing lens. Start by loosening the set screw -- use a screwdriver if necessary. \\ {{wiki:image_335.jpg?600}} - Unscrew lens by grabbing the outermost ring and rotating counter-clockwise.\\ {{wiki:image_336.jpg?600}} {{wiki:image_337.jpg?600}} - Attach the spacer that came with the zoom lens and tighten. \\ {{wiki:image_325.jpg?600}} - Make sure the aperture (red arrow below) is fully open by rotating in the ''%%OPEN%%'' direction. It's recommended that you tighten the set screw so that it stays open. \\ {{wiki:image_327.jpg?600}} - Familiarize yourself with the focus adjustment (red arrow below). Notice how it has about 90 degrees of rotation. Find the approximate "center" focus setting where there is approximately 45 degrees of rotation possible in both directions. \\ {{wiki:image_328.jpg?600}} - After finding the center of focus, remove the focus set screw. \\ {{wiki:image_329.jpg?600}} - Screw the lens into Vizy's lens mount until you run out of threads (that is, you cannot rotate further), then back off such that the focus "hole" is centered as shown. \\ {{wiki:image_331.jpg?600}} - Tighten the set screw so the lens doesn't rotate in the mount when you focus/zoom. \\ {{wiki:image_332.jpg?600}} - Reinstall the focus set screw. \\ {{wiki:image_334.jpg?600}} ===== Attaching an M12 lens ===== Vizy ships with a wide-angle M12 lens mounted in an adapter ring. You can use the adapter ring to mount your own M12 lens. - Remove the existing lens. Start by loosening the set screw -- use a screwdriver if necessary. \\ {{wiki:image_335.jpg?600}} - Unscrew lens by grabbing the outermost ring and rotating counter-clockwise. \\ {{wiki:image_336.jpg?600}} {{wiki:image_337.jpg?600}} - Loosen and remove the lock ring from the wide-angle lens -- use pliers if necessary. \\ {{wiki:image_338.jpg?600}} - Unscrew wide-angle M12 lens from adapter ring. \\ {{wiki:image_339.jpg?600}} - Screw the new M12 lens into adapter ring. - Screw the adapter ring into Vizy's lens mount. - Focus as desired (described below.) - Use the lock ring and set screw to fix the focus. ===== Focusing ===== Please refer to the [[wiki:vizy_getting_started|getting started guide]] if you need help with connecting to your Vizy, etc. - Bring up a browser and point it to your Vizy (typically ''%%vizy.local%%''). - Run a program that streams video, such as the ''%%video%%'' example. - Focus the lens on your subject, using the video feedback in your browser as a guide. - You can extend the zoom lens' focus range by adjusting the "back focus", that is, the distance between the back of the lens and the image sensor. You can adjust this by loosening the set screw (red arrow below), and rotating the lens such that it rotates within the lens mount. You may need to remove the focus set screw as before. When you are happy with the back focus distance, retighten the set screw to fix the back focus. {{wiki:image_332.jpg?600}}
